Attack Of Kitutu Chache Parliamentary Hopeful-James Ongwae

On behalf of the Gusii Human Rights Watch Network and progressive forces in Gusii Land and especially Kitutu Chache Constituency I wish to condemn the barbaric, crude and unschooled attack of Mr. James Ongwae and his campaign entrouge by hired goons. That the outgoing Member of Parliament, Mr. Jimmy Angwenyi has resolved to intimidate worthy opponents and the voters of Kitutu Chache, will not dim our resolve to remove him from parliament.Only last week I was personally called to help take a Student from Kenyatta University to the Kisii District Hospital after Mr. Angwenyi´s goons had beated him senseless left for death.

I note with dismay that the police, who should offer security to all, supervised this gang mete attack on Mr. Ongwae. I call upon government and police to investigate and provide a clear picture on this worrying trends.Mr. Angwenyi is not above the law and should be disqualified from running for the Kitutu Chache Parliamentary seat having contravened the ECK code of Conduct. That Mr. Angwenyi walks scot free is an abuse to human rights and the law of the land.

I call upon the youth to resist the urge to engage in violence because of small hand outs but instead focus on fighting bad leadership and injustices through participation in the electoral process to ensure leaders elected are selfless and those ready to transform Kitutu Chache. They should ask themselves whether Mr. ANgwenyi’s children were at the forefront of the attackers? Does Mr. Angwenyi need this youth only during elections, why has he not forged programs to emancipate the youth?
