Hospital in crisis needs urgent help

Recently, health workers at Nyamira District Hospital temporarily downed their tools, paralysing services for over three hours.

They assembled and threatened to hold a peaceful demonstration to the District Commissioner’s office and hand over the hospital to him in protest against what they termed harassment by journalists

A night before the boycott, some students from a nearby school, who sustained injuries during a strike, failed to get the attention of a medic, forcing one journalist to draw the DC, Mr Ali Muktar’s attention.

I was shocked when one of my colleagues said a journalist should not nurse his brother in the hospital because he may unearth the rot that is here. I wondered if it is a crime to have a kin who is a journalist.

In a nutshell, this hospital is in a deep crisis and it must be revived for the sake of the local people. It is sad that the concerned ministry has not come to our rescue so far.
