Police pounce on coffee smugglers in Gucha

Detectives in Gucha district have impounded a consignment of Coffee cherry suspected to be on transit to a neighbouring country.

The consignment was seized at Igare trading centre, Bobasi constituency Nyamache Division while on transit.

The detectives from the divisional headquarters acting on a tip off from the public ambushed the lorry's occupants before they impounded and escorted it to Ogembo police station.

The divisional CID chief Bruno Shioso said the consignment was being detained at a police station awaiting the verification of some documents produced by the driver.

Shioso said that coffee smuggling cases are on the increase in the district and his office and other security agents were working around the clock to stamp out the menace, which he said denies the country a lot of revenue.
