MPs Plan to Set Up House Team

Some MPs want a parliamentary committee set up to find a solution to the political crisis. They said there was need to talk to one another so that they could get answers to the challenges facing the country.

Briefing the media at Parliament buildings, Science and Technology minister, Dr Noah Wekesa (Kwanza), Mr Eugene Wamalwa (Saboti) and Mr Richard Onyonka (Kitutu-Chache) said the crisis should be dealt with at the parliamentary level.

Said Wekesa: "There is need for PNU and ODM to talk to each other because it is incumbent upon us to involve MPs in solving the current stalemate."

He said the MPs were at the initial stages of forming a 14-member team that would visit various parts of the country and compile a report in the next three weeks.

The report would be presented to President Kibaki and Mr Raila Odinga, but also be made available to the public. Wekesa said he had approached Gem MP, Mr Jakoyo Midiwo, who promised to communicate the plan to ODM MPs.

Meanwhile, Wekesa denied media reports that he had threatened to quit as Science and Technology minister if violence persisted.

He said he had taken part in the formation of PNU and there was no reason he would quit. "I'm not running out of this Government. I haven't threatened to resign," the minister said.
