Shabana Suspend Coach

Troubled Premier League side Shabana FC have now suspended their coach Enock Obwaka.

Shabana showed the former Gor Mahia star the door for allegedly being behind the team's boycott of last Saturday's league match against Mathare United in Kisii.

Club secretary Wycliffe Mageto said they had overwhelming evidence that the coach, hired in January to handle the Kisii club, incited the players at the 11th hour to boycott the match at Gusii Stadium.

Mageto told journalists in Kisii town that a section of the players who sided with the coach will also be dismissed.

He said the club had sent out and invitation to players interested in playing for Shabana to turn up immediately and sign contracts for the second leg.

Mageto added that a major funds drive had been organised to bail the club out of its current financial crisis with club patron Simeon Nyachae and cabinet ministers Sam Ongeri and Chris Obure among those who have confirmed attendence.

Yesterday, some of the Shabana players said they stood by their coach blaming the club's officials of frustrating them.

"The decision to boycott the match was unanimous and it is wrong for the club officials to blame our coach," a player, who did not wish to be named, said.

"We have gone without any allowance since the season started and it is unfair for our oficials to expect us to continue playing without having been paid the arrears."
