The Kisii stadium is undergoing renovations as it does not measure to the current international standards and club officials said yesterday that if it will not be ready in the next two weeks they will shift their international matches to Nakuru.
"We are in constant touch with the Gusii Municipal Council but if the repair work will not be completed by March 13 we will have no choice but to shift our continental matches to Afraha stadium," said a senior club official.
The last time the facility hosted a senior match was in 1988 when Shabana defeated Zambia's Kabwe Warriors 1-0 in the Africa Cup Winners' Cup. They were subsequently eliminated after losing 1-4 to the Zambians in the return match in Kitwe.
Shabana, who are making their second appearance in the continental showpiece, have picked a provisional squad of 25 players who will later be whittled down to 18.
The players who have reported at the Afraha Stadium training ground include goalkeeper Jackton Gatheru, Francis Baraza, Anthony Luziki, Simon Opwapo, Ismael Saidi, Charles Otieno, Peter Kakonge, Ibrahim Abdul, Robinson Makhoha, Geoffrey Okoth, Andrew Misati, David Hosea, A. Waweru, George Osano, D. Onkagi, K. Julius, B. Kitolo and A. Njenga.
In Nairobi meanwhile, Shabana will today hold their elections at the Garden Square restaurant from 4 pm, the branch's co-ordinator Robert Oiro Ichwara announced yesterday.
