Shabana Holds Leopards

Moi Golden Cup champions AFC Leopards were yesterday restricted to a barren draw by the visiting Shabana in a Zone B premier league match played at the Nyayo National Stadium. Shabana who had earlier settled for a 1-1 draw with Mathare United in Naivasha were completely outplayed by Leopards. They were not in ahurry to score as they played a defensive game throughout the match in a bid to snatch a point.
For Leopards, they will still blame themselves for squandering several clear chances. Their custodian Thomas Okongo was never tested while the defence which was led by captain Ezekiel Akwana, Vincent Agevi, Charles Achiya and Protas Fenzo did a sterling job but their stikers failed to live up to expectations.Sensational striker Brian Ombiji was injured early in the first half and was replaced by former Kenya Pipeline striker Justus Mutisya who played his heart out but still he was unable to see the back of the net. Leopards Justus Basweti and Charles Okwemba had a poor outing and were replaced by John Amwayi and Jack Omondi who gave a good account of themselves on the pitch. Twice, Mutisya released tricky shots in the dangerzone which went a few inches wide with fans yelling for a goal on each occasion while Omondi was twice deneied in the danger zone by Shabana's defenders while in a position to score. Earlier in the44th minute, Charles Okwemba failed to head Ezekiel Akwana's corner kick with the entire Shabana defence well beaten.
