Nyanza basketball tournament

Defending Nyanza secondary schools basketball champions Maseno School on Wednesday romped to the provincial quarterfinals after recording impressive wins against Nyamira Technical and hosts Migori High School.
Maseno were made to sweat before recording a 51-32 win over hard fighting Nyamira. Maseno were inspired by Otula Edwin while Nyamira’s Robin Mainda starred for his team.
In their second match, Maseno walloped hosts Migori High 88-9 to qualify to the quarters.
Girl’s basketball holders Raliew also sailed to the last eight after a 112-12 thrashing of Tendere. Raliew also defeated Moi Nyabohanse 53-12.
Sega whipped Itierio 40-9, Nyabohanse defeated Nyamira Technical 40-16, Nyamira Girls narrowly edged out Sega 19-18 while Nyamira Technical defeated Tendere 30-2. St Barnabas beat Itierio 26-16 in Wednesday's other match.
Boy’s hockey champions Kisumu Day came from two goals down to beat Nyabondo 3-2. Joseph Ongoro and Samson Owiti scored for Nyabondo while Antony Obondo, Evans Omondi and Austine Odendo scored for the holders.
In another boys hockey match, Kisumu Day hit Ambira 1-0 to qualify to the quarters. In other matches Kisumu Boys thrashed St Kizito, Nyansiongo 5-1, Maseno were held to a surprise 2-2 draw by Agoro Sare, Kisii School held Orero to a 1-1 draw while Nyamagwa defeated Mbita High School 1-0.
Defending girls hockey champions Lwak thrashed Nyakach Girls 6-1 with Quinter Adhiambo scoring five goals as Faith Nyawala added the sixth. Rodha Omole scored Nyakach’s consolation.
Heptathlon
In other matches, Ogande defeated Nyamonye 3-0, St Barnabas beat Nyamonye 1-0, Kisumu Girls defeated Nyabisawa 3-0 while Dede edged out Sengera 2-0.
Decathlon and Heptathlon will kick off on Thursday while cross country will be held on Friday. The Eight Gusii districts are expected to continue with their dominance. The games will end on Saturday.
* Media group sponsored Mombasa High School have been placed in a tough group A of this years national secondary schools term one games which kick off at Mangu High on April 15.
Mombasa High school who have been kitted by Nation Media group and Union University of Tennesee US and will therefore don the Daily Nation,Taifa Leo and Union Lady Bulldog kits during the secondary school games are in a group of death which has all last year’s semi finalists.
