Early this year the abagusii found themselves in the unique situation of being the only community - out of 42 - that was being attacked by both the ODM and PNU fighters.as the abagusii in the diaspora were being murdered, robbed, raped and their property vandalised,an interesting phenomenon was unfolding in kisii town.
contrary to expectations, the town became a safe haven for all the warring communities.residents of the town received and hosted several lorryloads of refugees from the same communities that were butchering their kin in naivasha, nakuru, kisumu, kericho and other places.market women gave them bananas and fruits as wananchi held impromptu harambees to buy milk, bread and sodas.all this was happening even as the town dealt with a sudden influx of abagusii IDPs.
it is worth noting that the three communities that the abagusii interact most with - the luo,the kikuyu and the kalenjin - were the communities that attacked them, and that there were no retaliatory or revenge attacks carried out against the members of these communities' resident in kisii town.in daraja mbili estate where more than a third of the population is luo,not even one house was burnt and no one was driven out.the same was the case in mwembe tayari where a large population of kikuyu reside.
the moral of the story is this:the WAKI REPORT must be implemented IN FULL,our MPs have not been vocal enough on the matter and that WE ARE WATCHING THEM KEENLY.
