It’s Ongeri’s cross, not the Abagusii’s

Did I see my fellow Gusii men chanting pro-Ongeri slogans recently? When did political accountability in Government become a ‘community’ affair?
Abagusii, and Kenyans in general, we can do better than this. If Education Minister Sam Ongeri misappropriated funds, did he do it for the Abagusii community?
If our good prof ‘ate’, let him carry his own cross. If he is clean, fine. He will still be at Jogoo House for the good of the country and not for the Abagusii people.
Cohesion and integration of our communities, and the fight against corruption, will only be achieved if we stop whipping up ethnic animosities.

The way some Kisii MPs are reacting in support of Prof Ongeri over the free education funds scandal is shameful.
These tribal outbursts are what nurture impunity and corruption. If Ongeri is innocent, I believe Kisii MPs should be the first ones to advise him to step aside to allow for proper investigation.
The tendency to reduce such a pressing national matter to a tribal battle sets a wrong precedent. It is time all ministers are held accountable for any suspicious dealings in their ministries.
After all, why are these MPs supporting Ongeri so strongly and yet none of them has raised a finger about the dismal performance of Kisii schools in national examinations?
If Ongeri is truly a church elder, he should honourably step aside to allow investigations to shame his political detractors, as he claims. He should not read mischief when Prime Minister Raila Odinga tells him to step aside.
