Leave Affiliate Parties Alone, Says Ruto

ODM-Kenya presidential hopeful, Mr William Ruto, has told his colleagues to stop clinging on affiliate political parties.

He, instead, asked them to concentrate on building strong ODM-Kenya structures. Ruto said some ODM leaders still owed strong allegiance to their parties, which he says is frustrating efforts to make the party a formidable force."The party is not important. Its our unity that will count if we want to serve Kenyans better," said the Eldoret North MP.

Ruto spoke in Gucha District during his ODM-Kenya presidential nomination campaign on Friday. The party's national treasurer, Mr Omingo Magara, who comes from the district, skipped his campaign trail.

Magara and the Bobasi ODM-Kenya chairman and former Finance Minister, Dr Chris Obure, kept away from the rallies addressed by Ruto The two, who are close allies of Lang'ata MP, Mr Raila Odinga, also skipped last week's four-day campaign by another ODM-Kenya presidential hopeful, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka.

They were also conspicuously absent as Dr Julia Ojiambo, another ODM-Kenya presidential aspirant, staged her campaign in the area.A team led by Mr Walter Nyambati, who said ODM-Kenya was a democratic party whose members were free to support whoever they wanted, instead hosted Musyoka. Both Magara and Obure are assumed to have decided to support Raila since they accompanied him on his tour of the area the previous week. Ruto, who did not comment on the absence of the two, said he had the right qualities.

"I have come for your support. I come from a poor and humble background, which I am sure gives me an edge over my colleagues," said Ruto. Ruto addressed a series of rallies in Gucha where he denied that there were cracks in the party."I am assuring you that all presidential hopefuls are speaking with one voice," the Eldoret North MP said.
