There are many words to describe Mr. Nyachae, the former M.P. for Nyaribari Chache and now a Presidential hopeful for the Kenya People coalition. Call him a dictator, a bully, a no nonsense administrator but one thing for sure Nyachae is one man, who really means what he promises. He has the nerve, the back bone and more than certainly, he is up to the presidential job. Rather than money, prestige, power or whatever that is, which churn the ambitions of presidential aspirants. Nyachae's drive is authentic, timely and wanted. He is the man who wants a chance to revamp the Kenyan economy more than anything and once given that opportunity he won't condone anything in his government that would derail a progressive economic recovery. While serving as the Minister for Finance he worked diligently and without fear with a vision to make a difference in the general finance sector. He pushed for accountability and responsibility against bad debtors, who so happened to be ‘big shots'. The move was audacious as it was impressive, but most of all it illuminated an intrinsic determination to put the Kenyan economy back on the road to progress, despite the numerous boulders.
The Kenyan economic situation is an emergency and if there is one common sentiment among all Kenyans it's that this time, we get somebody into the state house who will passionately prioritize the economic problem, enact recovery measures and implement the measures to the letter.
I confidently dare any presidential aspirant to substantially disagree with me on Nyachae's capability on getting the job done. This was a man who fell out with the government, basically because the government tied his arms and shut his ambitions of giving the economy a much needed shot in the arm when he was occupying a strategic office as the minister for finance. Kenyans now have a chance to empower this dedicated servant of the people, so he can work for us and salvage our beloved nation from the straps of poverty.
Cheap politicking and mud slinging is gaining momentum as Kenyans approach the elections in full gear. Voters' discretion is strongly advised as unscrupulous politicians hurl slanderous accusations to gain political mileage. It's simply absurd to call Nyachae, a selfish presidential aspirant who can't sacrifice his ambitions to join in a super alliance that would effectively dislodge Kanu from Power.
Nyachae refused to merge with the National rainbow coalition, because he is a man who believes in transparency and things being done right. How dare the top officials of the NARC scorn President moi's protege, Uhuru when they themselves hand picked Mr. Kibaki as the party's flag bearer. It's not like Nyachae was asking for something unreasonable. He wanted the flag bearer to be chosen in a democratic manner rather than behind closed door meetings. He was only demanding for a fair process that would satisfy all parties joining in the merger. Besides choosing a flag bearer democratically would give the eventual candidate the kind of legitimacy that won't be disputed down the road..
NARC presidential candidate was selected in a way that mocks democracy and Nyachae didn't want to join such a party that isn't even ashamed to start off so wrong. If they refused to be inclusive in their merger discussions and consider the views of Nyachae. What makes the other leaders who joined in the merger confident, that they won't be left out, whenever they'll find themselves having an idea that is right but wrong because it's against an already established current.
Granted, other presidential aspirants are not without some impressive qualifications. But, Kenyans have to be honest with themselves in not just identifying the resuscitation of the economy as the number one priority, but also who among the contenders can expeditiously confront the problem and get the best results within the Shortest time possible.
It's by such criteria that Kenyan should be raking their heads, especially now that we are quickly approaching the election date. So far, tribal background tops the list as the undisputed criteria by which most Kenyans will vote. It's about time Kenyan took a challenge to free themselves from the manacles of tribalism, just like our founding fathers fought for our freedom. It's been more than a decade since Kenya embraced the multiparty system, a purported development to open unprecedented democratic avenues. Unfortunately, we haven't yet grasped the basic tenets of democracy. What does it say about us when we choose to vote on the basis of tribal lines instead of issues and credentials?
Go Nyachae, Kenyan abroad wish you the best of luck in the good, Principled fight you are putting up
