Dr. Hezron Manduku

Honorable Hezron Manduku, Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Masaba constituency is a doctor by profession and a visionary leader who speaks integrity and acts with honesty. His passion for education, community service, healthcare and indefatigable efforts towards making a difference in the community has continued to extend his achievements and credibility as a development focused, innovative and unifying leader in Kisii and Kenya at large. Dr. Manduku continues to champion the power of collective action, service and volunteerism to solve some of the most challenging problems in our communities. This will be better remembered and more formally defined in history with his official launch of the “Service and Volunteerism Movement” later this year.

Born in 1941, Manduku attended Nyanturago primary school, Gesusu Intermediate before proceeding to Kasubi College in Kampala, Uganda. In 1963, he joined Patric Lumumba University in Moscow where he earned his medical doctorate degree in 1969. After graduation he returned home in Kenya to pursue his dreams of making a difference in the community and healthcare services in Kenya.

His first opportunity to continue advancing in the direction of his dreams was at Kenyatta National Hospital where he worked as a medical doctor fast-tracking his career to become an esteemed member of the team, contributing a broad-based perspective to create pragmatic strategies and plans designed to provide the best patient care services. He later joined Kisumu Provincial Hospital, Kakamega Provincial Hospital and Meru district hospital where he retired to start private medical practice in 1972 in Meru. In 1975 he moved to Kisii town and opened a nursing hospital - Kisii Maternity & Nursing Hospital (currently known as Hema Hospital) -- a 230 bed capacity with a branch at Keroka – Keroka Maternity& Nursing Hospital.

Manduku has become a household name in Kisii and undoubtedly not by accident but through sheer hard work coupled by his desire to extend his achievements of the past and willingness to craft a new vision for the future. Among his many achievements, he has served as Shabana football club chairman, chairman of Lions Club Kisii/Homa Bay branch, chairman ASK southern Kenya branch, was the KUC football club founder/chairman, member of the board of governors of Kisii teachers Diploma college since 1980 where he was vice-chairman of the board, chairman nyanturago secondary school since 1980, member of the board of governors Kisii High School
since 1982, chairman of the board of governors Nyanturago Primary School, chairman of the Gusii Municipal Stadium construction committee, chairman of the building and materials committee of the Kisii Central Church, chairman and sponsor of Shabana Football club 1989-1996. In 1994 was re-elected chairman of ASK Kisii, executive member of the Kisii branch of the Kenya medical association (KMA), life governor of the agricultural society of Kenya, just to mention a few.

Dr. Manduku first tried his hand in politics in 1988 during the single party era but lost to Professor Sam Ongeri. He returned 1992 general election, was successful and subsequently appointed Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Co-operation.
In 1997, Manduku lost to Ongeri in the KANU nominations. In 2002, he decamped to ford people and was elected Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Masaba constituency. He also serves as the chairman, Parliamentary Committee on Health, Housing, Labor and Social Welfare and was elected vice president for Africa in the fourth Global Forum of Parliamentarians on Habitat in Berlin Germany in 2003.

Dr. Manduku married in 1969 to Florence Moraa, and are blessed with eight children and six grand children. He is widely traveled throughout the world - Africa, Europe, America and the far East and has always and continues to be active in development matters in Kenya, donating generously all the time in aid of various development projects including schools in the completion of the 8-4-4, churches, women groups, youth activities, students going abroad for further studies, sick, personal aid, school fees in needy families and much more. His spirit of generosity and exceptional development focused achievements has elevated his status in Nyaribari Masaba constituency as the only responsible choice to lead us through these critical periods of change in our society.
