He was the first Kisii to spear death
A colonial D.O. called NORTHECORTE
Or Nyarigoti as the Abagusii called him
Otenyo hid under a bridge
And as Nyarigoti was passing by
Otenyo attacked him
Killing him with a mere spear
This was around 1906
The British imposed a hut tax
They brutally murdered and maimed
Women were raped
And there was death
Cattle was stolen and houses burned
Otenyo was excuted
And his head taken away
Nobody seems to remember this
Nobody cares to know
Remember Otenyo
The warrior
A Kisii man who killed a European
Nyarigoti with a mere spear
This man Otenyo deserves a mention in history
He deserves a state burial
Or a statue like that of Kimathi
In the heroes corner
Who can tell us where his remains were taken
Or even his head?
MORAA NG'ITI-the s-heroine
She agitated the fight against colonialism
She wondered why foreigners
Could come and take all our land as if we had no sons
As if we had no warriors
Those big babies
She encouraged men to take up spears
She led the fight against discrimination
She fought for women and the children
She deserves a mention
Remember the battle of the spears
Remember the shields
Remember Otenyo
Remember Moraa
Remember the nationalists
