DC Pledge On Border Clashes

Six police patrol posts have been established along the Gucha-Kisii-Transmara border to curb tribal clashes.

Transmara District Commissioner Wilfred Ndolo said yesterday the Government would use every means to stop the skirmishes between the Maasai and the Kisii.

He said the recent flare-ups at Nyamaiya market, in which four people died and scores of others were injured, were unfortunate, but added there had been peace along the border for the last 10 days.

Mr Ndolo said a joint security operation of the General Service Unit and the regular and administration police had been sent to the region to maintain peace.

He pleaded with the two communities to coexist peacefully.

Mr Ndolo, who was speaking in his Kilgoris office, said security measures in line with the resolutions passed at peace meetings had been taken.

He pleaded with the two communities to end their animosity and concentrate on developing their land
