Magara garnered 10,204 votes in South Mugirango to trounce his opponents who included his sister, Karen Nyamoita. Magara’s closest rival Ibrahim Ochoi got 5,848 votes while Ford-People’s Manson Nyamweya got 5,758 votes, with Nyamoita’s 431 votes.
Besides Magara, Assistant Minister, Mr Joel Onyancha (Ford-People), also secured the Bomachoge seat. Voters rejected eight former MPs in Kisii.
Onyancha got 9,076 votes while Mr Nyaundi Ogari (CCU) got 7,221, Nyaundi Mbaka (Ford-Kenya) 7,133 and Zephania Nyangwara (ODM) got 5,746 votes.
Magara’s victory was sweet coming soon after his political rival for Kisii supremacy with Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae, who had just lost.
"I can’t believe that Nyachae and his Cabinet colleague who were out to have me ousted have themselves lost," said Magara. He said the Abagusii had shown they wanted young leaders. In Nyaribari-Masaba, former Cabinet minister, Mr Sam Ongeri (Kanu) reclaimed the seat he lost in 2002 to Dr Hezron Manduku.
"I am delighted that my people have given me a chance to serve them as I did in the past. I will do my best to serve them even better," he said.
In Kitutu-Chache, Mr Jimmy Angwenyi lost to a perennial contender Richard Onyonka. Onyonka running on a little known (PPK), shocked many as he beat Angwenyi and former PS James Ongwae (ODM). Onyonka’s victory was a relief to him having lost thrice since the death of his father the late Dr Zachary Onyonka in 1996.
In Bonchari, Charles Onyancha defeated Zebedeo Opore of Ford-People. Onyancha had lost in the last two General Elections with slight margins.
Kanu won a second seat in Kisii through Wlifred Ombui. Mr Ombui resigned as the manager of the Gusii Mwalimu Teachers’ Saving Society to contest against outgoing MP Okeri Masanya and ODM’s Mr Joseph Kiangoi.
Former Finance minister, Mr Chris Obure (ODM) made a strong comeback after he trounced outgoing MP Mr Stephen Manoti. He got 14,456 votes to Manoti’s 10,646 while Narc-Kenya’s Naftali Mogere came second, with 11,152 votes.
Hundreds of West Mugirango residents cheered after ODM’s Dr James Gesami, a new comer in the political scene, defeated Obwocha. Obwocha has held the seat for 15 years.
They joined Gesami in a caravan of about a 100 vehicles after the victory was announced at Kebirigo High School Hall, and celebrated along Kisii-Nyamira-Miruka road.
