President Mwai Kibaki on Monday expressed confidence that he will win the forthcoming general election with a landslide as he had the support of majority of Kenyans countrywide.

Addressing thousands of wananchi at various parts of the greater Kisii region, President Kibaki said Kenyans have decided to vote for continued development and would not agree to be cheated into voting for people who have no development record.

Speaking at Ekerenyo and Nyamaramba in Nyamira district, the President noted that while he has facilitated the implementation of various development projects for the benefit of wananchi countrywide during the last five years, his opponents have been busy politicking at the expense of serving wananchi all the time.

"While these people have been around for all these years there is nothing they have done to improve the lives of Kenyans," President Kibaki said.

He cited the successful implementation of the free primary education programme, the rehabilitation of road network, the revival of key institutions that had collapsed and resuscitation of the economy as some of the achievements of his Government and pledged to improve the country even more during his second term in office.

President Kibaki pointed out that provision of free secondary education will be one of his priorities during his second term in office and assured Kenyans that his Government had already set aside funds for the programme which will start next month.

The President wondered how the opposition could match the leadership the country has had during the last five years he has been in office while they were only preoccupied with holding high offices instead of focus on pro- wananchi programmes like the free primary education and free secondary education.

President Kibaki said as a further step to improve the lives of Kenyans, his Government has established the youth enterprise development fund and the women development fund in order to empower the two critical segment of the Kenyans population economically, adding that ksh 3 billion has been allocated to the youth fund and a similar amount set aside for the women fund.

He observed that his government has managed to implement ambitious projects for the benefit of wananchi because of its prudent management of public resources, saying currently 93 per cent of the national budget is raised locally while only 7 percent comes from development partners.

In this regard, the President appealed to all Kenyans to vote for him as the country still required focused leadership that has been tested and its ability proven.

"We've been together for the last five years and you've seen what we've achieved together. Given another five years we will achieve even more," President Kibaki said.

Addressing roadside meetings at Kebiringo and Konate junction, President Kibaki assured tea farmers that his Government was working towards addressing the problems affecting them and soon they will be reaping maximum profit from their produce.

The president also addressed mini rallies in Nyamira town where he approved the creation on Manga district curved of from the larger Nyamira district and at Nyamache town in Gucha district where he directed the expansion of Gucha district hospital top provide better healthcare services to wananchi.

President Kibaki concluded his one day tour of the greater Kisii region by addressing a mammoth public rally at Nyamaramba town in South Kisii district where he urged wananchi to live peacefully.

Saying Kenyans have a right to acquire land legally and live in any part of the country without interference, the President called on Kenyans to shun those fuelling inter community clashes for political expediencies.

During the rally President Kibaki approved the creation of South Gucha district inorder to take Government services closer to wananchi.

President Kibaki as accompanied by Ministers Simeon Nyachae and Henry Obwocha and several PNU aspirants and supporters who reassured the President of the Gusii community's for him in the coming general election.
