Kibaki - Do Not Gamble With Vote

Sources at the Ford-People meeting said the party had been put under pressure by other partners to soften its stand that it would go to the polls as an independent party. Nyachae also held talks with former health minister, Prof Sam Ongeri, at a city hotel in readiness for PNU campaign in Kisii.

The closed-door meeting, which was also attended by Planning, minister, Mr Henry Obwocha, sought to put to rest their differences and work as a team as the President makes his maiden tour of Kisii since he was elected. Ongeri said a committee would be constituted to include all parties in PNU to avoid any wrangles when the President visits.

Nyachae was meeting Ongeri - who has been his political rival - for the first time in many years. "The meeting agreed to bury all differences among different political leaders in Kisii ahead of the President's trip. It was agreed that a joint committee be put in place to co-ordinate the trip," said a source.

The Ford-People MPs met to also draw a programme on the presidential tour of Kisii next week. "The President is expected to carry out an intensive campaign in Kisii starting Monday and the MPs who will be hosting him met to discuss this among other issues," said the source.  It was not clear what position finally the Nyachae-led party took concerning the fragile PNU nominations as the consultations were still on.
