Mr Onyancha warned residents against selling their cards, saying it was against ECK rules and amounted to denying people their democratic rights. The MP said he would give the information to the police for investigations and possible prosecution of the culprits. Two months ago former area MP Zephaniah Nyang'wara stormed the ECK offices in the district claiming there was voter importation from the neighbouring South Mugirango constituency by unnamed politicians. He also asked the officials to investigate the matter. Mr Onyancha was speaking at the weekend at Ekerubo Primary School in his constituency during a fund-raising meeting for building of the school's dining hall.
He urged residents to vote for President Kibaki for his development record. The function raised Sh609,796 with Mr Onyancha giving Sh50,000. Sports minister Maina Kamanda sent Sh100,000.
In Migori, politicians claimed some people were moving around in sleek cars, buying voter's cards at between Sh500 and Sh1,000. Led by an ODM parliamentary aspirant in Nyatike constituency, Mr Edick Omondi Anyanga, the leaders asked the ECK and the police to be on the lookout for the criminals.
