Prof. Ratemo Michieka, a contestant for the Nyaribari Masaba constituency on NARC-K ticket has a vision to improve projects including education in the area, schools, health centers, water and rural electrification, and establish a constituency office. He also intends to revive Pyrethrum production which has collapsed and has brought widespread poverty in the constituency.Prof. Michieka is a former member of the Kenya National Academy of Science (KNAS), established as a statutory organization under the Science & Technology Act Cap 250, of the Laws of Kenya. This body strategically represented a significant mile stone Academy. It was the first one to be developed a quarter of a century ago and it represented the vision of a cross-section of Scientists from different professional fields .He is a former Chair in Biotechnology, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Institute for Biotechnology Research center in Nairobi, Kenya. He is also a former Vice chancellor of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and director general of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). Former Chair, Kenya Agriculture Research Institute, Chair Inter-University Council for East Africa. A Member of the Compliance Committee on Kyoto Protocol, Member of the National Science and Technology for many years. Member for many years of the Commission for Higher Education on accreditation of private universities among several others. He has served as an alternate member of the Association of African Universities 1989-1999; there are 151 Members of the AAU stemming from 43 African countries. Prof Ratemo Michieka has been Chairperson of ACTS Governing Council where he underscored the importance of the development and adaptation issues at the Development and Adaptation Day, which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, last year November 2006. The event was organized by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), and the RING Alliance of Policy Research Organizations, and supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (GTZ). The event attracted distinguished panelists comprising of heads of delegation, senior representatives of the UN and donor agencies.
