Nyamweya Slams Ongeri Over Suspension
Nyamweya also dismissed his suspension as branch secretary as null and void, saying the meeting was convened irregularly, without the attendance or consultation of the full branch executive committee.
He added that the suspension has not even been sanctioned by Kanu headquarters, adding he was very firm as a secretary and that only the entire Kisii District delegates can oust him.
"Prof Ongeri should bear in mind that he has no authority to suspend members because he is not an elected chairman, but a caretaker of the branch affairs," Nyamweya said at a news conference in a Nairobi hotel.
He said out of the nine executive committee members only three attended the meeting, terming it "a gathering of Prof Ongeri's campaign team".
He accused the minister of introducing politics of intimidation, blackmail, witch hunting and malicious propaganda against Kanu members with divergent views over the coming national delegates meeting on March 18 at Kasarani.
Nyamweya said his differences with Prof Ongeri emerged over his support for Finance Minister Chris Obure and Energy Minister Mr Raila Odinga for the posts of vice-chairman and secretary general, respectively on March 18.
Present at the news conference was Zachary Motari, who has also been suspended as the branch vice chairman, executive members David Nyakoe, assistant secretary, Samwel Nyangeso, youth leader, Simeon Nyamanya, a member, and Kitutu Chache delegates Charles Aminga, and Simeon Onuong'a.
Other signatories to Nyamweya's statement are Kisii mayor Grace Nyangaresi, women leader, Grasimi Isaboke, Kitutu Chache delegate and Charles Onyancha, delegate.
Earlier, Nyamweya had been ousted as Kisii Kanu branch secretary and replaced by Mr Richard Onyonka, adds Willice Ochieng'.
