Women Blamed for Female 'Cut'

Women are to blame for rising female circumcision in Nyamira District, a lobby group says.

The secretary of the League of Kenyan Women Voters, Mrs Catherine Nyamato, yesterday criticised fellow women who practised the "outdated rite" and parents who forced their daughters into it.

The former nominated MP was speaking at Gesima market in the district. She said the practice was harmful and that the Kisii community had no choice but to discard it.
