MPs Call for More Staff in Hospitals

he Health ministry has been asked to post more staff to the health centres, especially now since cases of malaria have increased in the three Kisii districts.

MPs Mwancha Okioma (Kitutu Masaba) and Godfrey Masanya (North Mugirango) lamented that many health centres had only one nurse.

They asked Health minister Charity Ngilu to issue a circular directing medical staff to give free drugs in the malaria-prone region.

Although Mrs Ngilu gave the directive on free drugs three weeks ago, staff say a circular to that effect had not been issued, adding that patients were still paying for malaria drugs.

The MPs were speaking separately at the weekend after touring health centres in their constituencies.

A spot check at several health centres revealed that there was an upsurge on Malaria cases in the area.
