Six Attain Qualifying Marks

Six athletes have struck the All Africa Games (AAG) qualifying marks after last weekends athletics Kenya meeting in Gisii.

Mike Kosgey, the national athletics coach said Japheth Ogamba, Ezra Maritim (200 metres men), Josephine Nyarunda, Hellen Chemutai (100 metres women), Philip Mosima (5000 metres) and Cecilia Kiplagat (Javelin) have all hit the qualifying marks for the games, which will be held in Abuja, Nigeria in October.

Kosgey expressed hope that more athletes would hit the qualifying targets when the next weekend meeting is held in Eldoret in a fortnight time.

Meanwhile, Pamela Anjela of Telkom returned a time of 62:22.2 minutes to win the 10-km walk during last weekend's meeting in Kisii.

Team mate Jane Taabu was second at 62:44.5 minutes.

Paul Langat of Armed Forces won in the men's Javelin after throwing 65:95 metres ahead of teammate Peter Saina who threw 64:20 m.

David Odiyo of Lanet won in the hammer throw (49.4 metres). He was followed by Peter Monyancha of Telkom (40:52 m) and Joel Tanui GSU (35:01 m).

Former national women triple jump Caroline Kola of Telkom was beaten to third place after leaping 10:13 metres.

Caroline Cherop of GSU was winner (10:63 m) while Catherine Kaweria of police was second placed at 10:22 m.

However, Kola retained the women shot put title after throwing 13.22 metres while team mate Frida Nyangare (12.22) and Grace Chepkwony (10.38) finished third and second respectively.
