Nyachae Urged To Declare Party Stand

Former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae has been told to declare the party that will sponsor him for the next General Election following his suspension from Kanu.

The Eldoret-based Nyachae Young Movement lobby group said the Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament's supporters were confused over which party to support.

The lobby officials, Sheikh Ali Mayaka, Gisaka Owenya, Mamoli Nyausi and Bernard Wafula said they were ready to vote as a bloc for the party of Mr. Nyachae's choice come 2002.

Addressing journalists in Eldoret, the group vowed to mobilise the MP's supporters to leave Kanu and rally behind a party of Mr. Nyachae's choice "at the opportune time".

"Mr. Nyachae should look for a house to take shelter in now that he has been suspended from Kanu, if he is not ready to form his own party," Sheikh Ali, member of the Uasin Gishu Ford-K Executive Committee, said.

The group said many Kenyans were dissatisfied with Kanu's leadership.

They said Mr. Nyachae's popularity should not be underestimated as he enjoyed support from various parts of the country not only from his Kisii kinsmen.

The ruling party Governing Council recently chaired by President Moi recently suspended rebel MPs for allegedly failing to advocate party policies.

They included Nyachae, his Cherengany counterpart Kipruto Kirwa, Anthony Kimetto (Sotik), Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache), Cyrus Jirongo (Lugari) and former minister Kipkalya Kones.
