Mugirango New Kanu Officials Picked

West Mugirango Kanu and NDP sub-branch officials formally merged yesterday and held elections for the new Kanu party. Dr Elneyo Nyakiba was elected the chairman while Bobanchi Mogeni was elected vice-chairman.

A one-time chairman of Operation Moi Wins, Evans Ondieki, was elected the sub-branch secretary alongside Paul Kengele (treasurer), Thomas Nyarumi (youth leader), Mary Kebaso (women leader) while Ambassador Sospeter Mageto was elected the organising secretary.

Speaking after the exercise, Dr Nyakiba said that the new Kanu can now win the next General Election because majority of those who had messed it up had now defected to the opposition.

He cautioned the Kisii community against joining the opposition, saying that if they made such a mistake, they would be sidelined from the Government.

Meanwhile, former Kenya Reinsurance Managing Director, William Mbote, has now taken over the Maragua Kanu branch leadership after Councillor Francis Kamami went underground.

And now peace has returned to the trouble-ridden Kanu branch. The delegates have finally accepted Mbote as their branch chairman.

Cllr Kamami went underground after the Kanu delegates meeting at Kasarani when his ally, Minister Joseph Kamotho, stepped down for Energy Minister Raila Odinga from the secretary general's seat.

The branch organising secretary, Kennedy Wainaina, said Mbote has already been endorsed at the Kanu headquarters as the Maragua Kanu branch chairman.
