The guard beat up Henry Nyarora of Nation, Joseph Obwocha (KNA), Francis Nyaru, Angwenyi Gichana, Evans Nyakundi and Robert Nyasato of the East African Standard after accusing them of reporting his boss negatively.
The guard also damaged Nyarora's wrist watch and the tape recorder of the KNA reporter saying he had declared total war on the crew. The assault took place at Nyamira playground shortly before the arrival of Ford People leader Simeon Nyachae for a public rally.
Members of the public who rescued the victims accused Obwocha of using his guard to harass and intimidate news reporters. Six days ago, Ford People supporters led by former councillor George Masereti threatened to beat up reporters for not covering Nyachae positively.
Meanwhile, four Parliamentary aspirants for Nyaribari Masaba Constituency have called for peaceful election campaigns.
