Nyachae Warns Ford-P Officials Against Rigging

Ford People's presidential candidate Simeon Nyachae has told all national party officials and former MPs to keep off the nomination of parliamentary and civic candidates.

Mr Nyachae allayed fears that he was out to favour some of his long time allies in the nominations.

He said that within Kisii, Gucha and Nyamira, where the party enjoys massive support, identification and voters cards would be used during the exercise scheduled for next week.

"Nobody should try to intimidate other hopefuls using my name. I want to ensure all candidates that I will not try to impose anybody on the electorate," he said.

He was speaking at a campaign meeting in Gucha District.

About 18 personalities used the well-attended rally to declare their candidature for the district's three constituencies.

Mr Nyachae asked Kenyans to elect leaders on merit irrespective of their tribal background.

He asked members of the Kisii community to remain united and stop fearing that they would be isolated if they voted for him as a block.

Meanwhile, Mr Nyachae has defended himself against accusations of being a spoiler in his bid for the presidency. He said no individual or a particular group of people had an exclusive right to the seat.

Mr Nyachae accused the bigger tribes of hatching a conspiracy against the minorities in the election of national leaders.

Speaking at Tendere sports ground in Ogembo Town during his second campaign rally in Gusii land, the Ford People leader said the records of those seeking national offices should be scrutinised.

Mr Nyachae claimed he was the best placed to revive the country's economy. Having worked closely with President Moi for many years, he said, he knows where things went wrong.
