Obwocha Beats Five To Take Ford-P Ticket

Former West Mugirango MP Henry Obwocha has won the Ford People ticket.

He polled 7,047 against a former nominated MP Catherine Nyamato's 4,720.

Other contestants included Mr John Nyagarama (2,181), a former district officer Zephania Sagwe (242), Mr Charles Ongoto (287) and Elijah Obenga (351).

The elections were marred by a heavy downpour and insufficient election materials.

In North Mugirango, a tea factory director Godfrey Masanya carried the Ford People ticket defeating a former assistant minister Nyarangi Muturi, Francis Ongwae, Suleman Ondieki and Barake Maina.

By the time of going to press, the party's civic and parliamentary nominations were going on in Kitutu Masaba.

Those contesting for the party's ticket include Mr Timothy Bosire, Mr Walter Nyambati, Mr Nyangau Okioma, Mr Charles Omwenga and Mr Matata Nyakega.

A director of Sanganyi Tea Factory Mr Andrew Nyamwanda, alias Monkey, was elected unopposed as the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc), nominee for the North Mugirango.

In Kitutu Masaba, Mr Ezekiel Angwenyi defeated his sole opponent Abigael Matini to clinch the Narc ticket. Meanwhile, the Kenya Social Congress announced it will field candidates in the 10 constituencies of Kisii, Nyamira and Gucha districts.

Party chairman George Anyona said he was confident of retaining his Kitutu Masaba seat and termed as unfounded claims that he had stepped down.

He would present his nomination papers to the returning officer today.

Others who have been accorded automatic clearance include Mr John Peter Nyakundi (Bonchari), Mr Erastus Nyamera Masira (Kasarani), Mr Ali Salesa Tumalo (Saku), Mr Mathew Ondeyo (West Mugirango) and Mr Andrew Mageto Nyangena (Kitutu Chache).

About 78 civic hopefuls had been cleared by the party, Mr Anyona said.
