Ongeri Dismisses Luo Support for Narc

A Cabinet minister yesterday predicted that Kanu's Uhuru Kenyatta will get 25 per cent of the vote in Nyanza Province despite the strong support for Ford People and Narc.

Public Health minister Sam Ongeri said even with the Narc strong wave, Nyanza would still be one of the five provinces that the Kanu flag-bearer where the candidate will get the 25 per cent required under the Constitution.

"We will deliver not only parliamentary seats, but also the presidential votes for our candidate," he told a campaign rally in his constituency.

Prof Ongeri, the Public Health Minister, dismissed the massive Luo support for Narc and the participation of Social Democratic Party presidential candidate James Orengo as illusions that would not affect Kanu.

During the weekend rally, Mr Elijah Moindi, who lost the Ford-P nomination, defected to Kanu.
Prof Ongeri said he was confident of retaining his seat on a Kanu ticket, and called for peaceful campaigns.

He said media reports that Mr Nyachae enjoyed fanatical support in Kisii were misleading.

Prof Ongeri urged the community to vote Mr Uhuru Kenyatta for president.
